01 / Jacket
The open-chest jacket
Cropped and open through the chest, with a high collar and a D-ring set at the throat. The sleeves are long and closed: they carry the arms across the body and behind the back, and buckle there.
The rear is a column of buckle straps with lacing between them and D-rings set into the panel, so tension is something you set rather than something the pattern fixes. The same jacket can sit loosely across the shoulders or hold the arms firmly, and the D-rings give a point to tether from.

The full-coverage hood
Padded and fully enclosing, laced at the back and crossed by a strap array that pulls down to a buckled collar with a D-ring at the throat. Snap-fastened panels sit over the eye and the mouth positions. The rear is smooth and completely closed.
Sight goes first and speech is muffled, which is the point of the piece and also the reason to settle the practical questions before the collar is buckled. Check the wearer can breathe easily and be heard, and agree a signal that needs neither voice nor hands. The safety section below sets out how.

The pair of mitts
Padded fists that close the hand entirely and remove fine motor control. Nothing can be gripped, unbuckled or picked at; the hand becomes a soft, blunt shape.
Each mitt cuffs with a buckle strap and carries a D-ring at the wrist. The buckle takes a padlock, so once it is closed the wearer cannot release themselves — which is exactly why the keys need a named holder and a fixed place before anything is locked.

Rear buckle columns
Straps and lacing run the length of the back. Tension is set by hand, then held by the buckle rather than fixed by the pattern — which is what lets one jacket sit loose or close.

Cuff buckle and lock point
The cuff buckle takes a padlock. Closed, the mitt cannot be worked off from the inside — so the padlock is a decision, not a detail, and the keys need a holder.

The straps cross the crown and the jaw and draw down into the collar buckle, so the hood sits without shifting. The eye and mouth positions are covered by snap-fastened panels.

Fitting / Order of Work
Fit and adjustment
Four steps, in this order. Adjusting from the top down keeps the load on the shoulders and off the neck.
Collar first
Set the collar before anything else, and leave two fingers of room between the strap and the neck. Everything else is adjusted around where the collar sits.
Back, bottom up
Tension the rear straps evenly, working from the bottom of the column upwards. Even tension across the whole back; no single strap doing the work.
Sleeves last
The sleeves buckle last, once the collar and back are settled. Check the shoulders still have a little movement before the buckle is drawn closed.
Check the throat
Run a hand round the whole collar line. No strap should cross or sit on the front of the throat. If one has migrated, undo it and reset rather than pulling it aside.
Safety and Consent / Read Before Use
The part that matters most
This set does two things that change the rules. The hood removes sight and muffles speech. The mitts lock, and a locked mitt cannot be undone from inside. Between them, the wearer may be unable to free themselves or easily call out — so the plan has to be made before anything is buckled, not after.
Before you begin
- For informed, consenting adults only. Everyone involved agrees to what is happening, in advance, while everyone can still speak freely.
- Agree a signal that works without speech or hands. Humming a set rhythm, a dropped object, a small bell held in the fist. Test it once before the hood goes on.
- Decide who holds the padlock keys and where they stay. They stay in the room, in that person's hand or pocket — not on a shelf, not in another room, not in a bag.
- Put safety scissors or a quick-release tool within arm's reach before anything is buckled.
While it is on
- Never leave a restrained person alone, not for a moment. Not to answer a door, not to fetch something.
- Keep breathing and circulation clear at all times. Stop immediately at numbness, tingling, colour change in the hands, or any difficulty breathing.
- Check in on a set interval you agreed in advance, and use the signal you tested rather than assuming silence means comfort.
- Nothing should cross or compress the front of the throat. Reset a strap that has migrated; do not simply pull it aside.
Coming out
- Release in reverse order: mitts first, so the hands come back before sight does.
- Expect stiffness and low blood pressure. Sit down before standing, and give it a minute.
- Water, warmth, and a few quiet minutes. Coming out of restraint is part of the session, not the end of it.
- Check the skin where straps sat, and talk about how it went while it is still fresh.
This set is not designed for breath restriction. The hood is not a respirator and its panels are not an airway — check that the wearer can breathe easily and be heard before anything is locked.
Do not use it in water, do not sleep in it, and do not combine it with anything that bears weight or suspends.

Care and storage

Wipe the PU with a damp cloth and a mild soap. No solvents, no abrasives.

Air dry fully before it goes away. Damp storage is what ruins PU.

Flat or hanging, so the padded panels and the collar do not crease.
